I read a letter to the editor in the Salt Lake Tribune (posted below 12/22/2008). It really paints a picture of what should be important and we shouldn't really worry about insignificant things. I have some hateful feelings towards the LDS Church.
LDS Church prioritiesI love Christmas--that time when we suddenly pay attention to thepoor and needy. Especially now, the newspapers are plagued withstories of growing desperation, increasing unemployment andspreading despair. I like to imagine all the people i couldhelp if i had, say, $22 million. Think of all the children who could eat,the operations the could proceed or the families that could stay afloat. The Mormon faithful recently raised $22 million, but they didn't spendit on the needy. NO, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsdecided that gays, not hunger, were the greater social threat.Imagine the cunning Pharisees asking: "Master, which is better? To spend $22 Million on the poor or on a mildly deceptive campaignto stop the legalization of gay relationships?" Surely the man who saidthat the key to heaven was feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked and being a place of refuge would choose the mildlydeceptive campaign. At least, that's what the LDS Church decided Jesus would choose. The economic turmoil, foreclosures and bankruptcies will destroy far more thantwo men getting a piece of paper at San Francisco's City Hall.Nathan KunzPhoenix
